VOLUNTEER SERVICES

The Volunteer Department at North Ottawa Community Hospital consists of an adult volunteer program and a student program. There are approximately 250 volunteers working in various positions. They provide clerical support in the hospital and at various off-site locations. They also occupy many non-clerical positions including staffing the information desk and working in the Gift Shop.

People volunteer because they enjoy helping others. Our volunteers:

Have a friendly, cooperative attitude
Are dependable and prompt
Give at least four hours each week
Attend mandatory orientation and training sessions

Volunteers are encouraged to participate in areas where their talents can best be put to use and their interests expanded. Volunteers may choose assignments that offer frequent patient interaction or no interaction at all. Placement also depends on the immediate needs of the hospital.

Messenger
Valet Parking
Hostess
Information Desk
Outpatient Clinic Hostess
Family Birthing Unit
Medical/Surgical Unit
Clerical
Outpatient Surgery Liaison
Special Events

Junior Volunteer Program

Students age 14 or older may volunteer at North Ottawa Community Hospital. Being a student volunteer offers young adults the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the healthcare field. Qualifications and requirements are similar to the adult volunteer program. For student volunteer information, please call the Volunteer Office at (616) 847-5214.
